What we collect — and what we don't

This site has no user accounts, no sign-up forms, and no newsletter. You never give us your name, email address, or financial details to use the calculators.

  • Calculator inputs stay in your browser. Every figure you type into a calculator (prices, rates, terms, fees) is processed entirely on your device by client-side code, and inputs are never stored on our servers. Inputs are encoded into the page URL so you can bookmark or share a scenario — if you share a calculator URL, anyone with that link can see the inputs it contains (see how URL parameters work). One exception to note: if you have consented to analytics, anonymous usage events may include summary figures from a calculation (for example the holding horizon in years or a computed monthly payment) as described in the Analytics section below — never your identity, and never any free text you type.
  • Server and CDN logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting and content-delivery providers keep standard access logs (IP address, browser user agent, requested URL, timestamp, referrer) for security, abuse prevention, and reliability. These logs are retained for a limited time by the hosting/CDN provider and are not used to build profiles of visitors.

Cookies and local storage

We set no first-party tracking cookies of our own. Your consent choices are collected and stored by Google's certified consent management platform (described in the Consent section below). If you visited before that platform was in place, a single localStorage entry named lvb-consent from our earlier banner may remain in your browser; if present, a stored "denied" choice is still honored. Third-party cookies may be set by Google services described below, subject to your consent choice.

Analytics — Google Analytics 4

When analytics is active, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), loaded through Google Tag Manager or directly via the Google tag (gtag.js), depending on configuration. GA4 collects information such as the pages you visit, approximate location (country/region/city level), device and browser type, and interaction events. Our calculator events include the calculator's name and anonymous summary figures from the calculation — for example the verdict ("lease" or "buy"), the holding horizon in years, a term length, or a computed total such as a monthly payment or maximum affordable price. These figures describe a hypothetical scenario, are not tied to your identity, and contain no contact or account information (we hold none). Google states that GA4 does not log or store individual IP addresses: the IP is used transiently to derive coarse geolocation and then discarded. Analytics is consent-gated as described in the Consent Mode section below — where the default is "denied", GA4 sets no analytics cookies unless you accept.

Advertising — Google AdSense

This site may display ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use third-party advertising cookies to serve ads:

  • Personalized ads — if you consent, Google may use cookies to show ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
  • Non-personalized ads — if you decline (or in regions where consent is denied by default), ads can still be shown based only on contextual information such as the page content and coarse location, without advertising-profile cookies.

Consent Mode v2 and consent management

We implement Google Consent Mode v2. Before any Google tag runs, consent defaults are set as follows:

  • EEA, United Kingdom, and Switzerland: ad storage, ad user data, ad personalization, and analytics storage all default to denied until you make a choice.
  • Everywhere else (including the United States): these default to granted; you can still limit advertising cookies via the industry tools linked below and your browser settings.

Consent itself is collected by Google's certified consent management platform ("Privacy & messaging", also known as Funding Choices), which implements the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework (TCF) with per-purpose and per-vendor controls. In regions where consent is required, its message appears before personalized ads or analytics cookies are used, and your choices are applied to Google tags automatically through the TCF and Consent Mode.

Withdrawing or changing your consent

In regions where the consent message is shown, you can revisit your choices at any time via the consent platform's "Manage options" / privacy link, or by clearing this site's data (cookies and site data) in your browser settings and reloading — the message will appear again and you can choose differently. You can also block cookies for this site entirely via your browser.

Your rights under GDPR (EEA/UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, the right to data portability, and the right to withdraw consent at any time (via the consent platform's options or by clearing this site's data, as described above). Because we operate no accounts and keep no user database, the personal data we could hold about you is essentially limited to hosting logs and consent-gated Google cookies. California privacy notice (CCPA/CPRA)

We do not sell personal information as "sale" is defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act. The third-party advertising cookies described above may be considered "sharing" for cross-context behavioral advertising under the CPRA; you can opt out of personalized advertising via the consent platform's options where shown, and through the industry opt-out tool at optout.aboutads.info. California residents may also email hello@leasevsbuycar.com to ask what information is held about them or to request deletion; as noted above, we keep no user accounts or profiles.

Children

This site is about auto financing and is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how the site handles data — for example, if the consent platform changes, or if analytics or advertising services are added or removed — we will update this page and revise the "Last updated" date above.
